Synonyms:

The Melrose variety was created by Freeman S. Howlett at the Experimental Agricultural Station from Ohio, USA in 1937, and was officially put into production during the Second World War, more precisely in 1944. It was soon brought to France. The variety was created by crossing Jonathan and Red delicious varieties.
